Halloween Horror LAND UNKNOWN Part 2

We Have Already Seen...

...(at Secret Sanctum of Captain Video) an Antarctic expedition investigating reports of a source of warm water and fossils discovers, within a circular mountain range, a hidden tropical oasis...filled with creatures long consider extiinct!
Forced down after their helicopter is damaged by a collision with a pterodactyl, the team encounters another prehistoric creature...
To Be Concluded, Tomorrow, at Secret Sanctum of Captain Video!
Historical note: in 1947, the US Navy found currents of warm water emanating from fissures along the Antartcic Coast!
It turned out to be water from the ice sheet itself, melted by heat from subterranean volcanic activity, not leaking from a pocket oasis on the surface!

Halloween Horror BLACK MAGIC "Cry for Help!"

Most comics fans know Prize's Black Magic series as...

...one of the Joe Simon/Jack Kirby team's best projects.
But, as you can see from this non-S&K tale, there was more to it!
The S&K team's tenure ended when the book was cancelled with #33 in 1954, due to the mass cancellations of horror comics caused by the "Seduction of the Innocent" hysteria generated by Fredric Wertham.
When the book was revived as a Comics Code-approved sci-fi title with #34 in 1957, Joe Simon returned as editor, but the ongoing partnership with Kirby had ended and Jack didn't participate in the new version.
They would work together on occasional projects like the late-1950s Harvey Comics sci-fi/fantasy line and the reboot of The Sandman at DC in 1974, but not as partners, just co-workers.
This particular story, by penciler/inker Ted Galindo and inker Bill Draut is from the final issue...#50 (1961).
Note: Didn't the son's "future self" say he had found the frozen dinosaur two years earlier?
But he also said he was from 1970...ten years in the future.
So, unless my math is really off, the son wouldn't find the dinosaur for another...eight years!
How did he find it now?

FANTASTIC "Dinosaur in Grandfather's Barn"

You know how kids are always "seeing monsters" in closets, garages and/or barns?
Well, maybe you should listen to them once in a while...
This tale from Youthful's Fantastic #8 (1952) is illustrated by long-time comic artist Henry Kiefer, a fine arts-trained illustrator who's best known for his work on Classics Illustrated.
The writer is unknown.
BTW, despite being #8, this is actually the first issue of Fantastic.
Before this, it was Captain Science!
(And the lead tale in this issue was the last Captain Science story.)

Join us tomorrow as we present another tale your grandparents didn't want your parents to see!
